In an interview, Dolly revealed the story behind the title of this famous song, in which she said that she got the idea for the title of this song from a fan girl named Jolene, who was around 10 years old. Dolly found the eyes of that girl to be very deep. Parton was so impressed with the beauty of that girl. She asked her name while giving an autograph to her, and that convinced Dolly to make a song with that name.
